How we Walkfit?
Laura
Laura, 29, from Cheam in Surrey, is married with three school age children. She works part time at a call centre and her husband Gary is in computer software. Laura leads a busy, hectic lifestyle - ferrying the children to school, grocery shopping, work, after school activities and looking after her family.
“Even though I’m not a member of a gym, I reckon I’m pretty healthy and active. Running around after three kids – either getting them to school or at the weekends – keeps you on your toes! Having said that, like most people I want to be a bit fitter than I am, maybe lose some weight, feel better. I’d tried aerobics, step classes and the like, but I just felt like you were bouncing around at the back of a room, trying to keep up with a superfit young girl who didn’t even look at you!
When I turned up to the first class I have to admit that I was a little bit intimidated by the combat trousers and boots of the instructors. Kevin, our instructor was incredibly friendly though, and he reassured us that we hadn’t signed up to a bootcamp. We started the class and were immediately into a brisk walk and doing simple warm up exercises as we went along. Kev introduced some little games and activities to mix things up, and to get us all talking and training together. That was great, and I’d forgotten how competitive I could be! Whenever we stopped and did some exercises we only did short little bursts of them – and they were all different so you never got bored.
At the end of the hour I was quite flushed – it had been a really good, enjoyable workout, and we hadn’t had to run once, or get down on the ground and do lots of horrid press ups. I went along to all the trial sessions I was asked to, and I’m looking forward to continuing doing Walkfit now that it’s been launched. I have to – I’ve made so many friends in the class that I can’t let them all down now, plus it’s a great way to have a healthy break from Gary and the kids”
